State Board of Education & Early Development to Meet in Anchorage December 7-8
JUNEAU – The Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development will hold a regular quarterly meeting and a professional development workshop on December 7 & 8, 2022, in Anchorage, Alaska. The board meeting will be held at the Anchorage School District, 5530 E Northern Lights Blvd. Public participation for the meeting will be in person and through the digital platform Zoom. The workshop will begin at 10:00 a.m. on December 7, 2022, and the quarterly board meeting will begin on December 8, 2022, at 9:00 a.m.
The board will take public comment on agenda and non-agenda items starting at approximately 9:10 a.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2022. Oral comment is limited to three minutes per person and five minutes per group. Public comment may be made for this meeting during this time only, in person or by joining the online Zoom meeting at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/99391482721 or by calling 1-253-215-8782 (toll free) and selecting *9 on your phone’s keypad (Meeting ID 993 9148 2721).
This meeting will be audio-streamed through the digital platform Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/99391482721 (Meeting ID 993 9148 2721) beginning at 10:00 am on December 7th, 2022 until 12:30 p.m. and again on December 8, 2022 beginning at 9:00 a.m. When public comment is over, the meeting will continue to be broadcast at the above website.
The purpose of the meeting is to hold a professional development workshop, work session, and a business meeting.
Topics at the professional development workshop include an Anchorage School District presentation, statewide correspondence program update, special education update, committee meeting reports and discussion.
Topics at the work session include UAA School of Education update, Competency-based Apprenticeship Program presentation, commissioner recruitment update, board report to the legislature, MEHS land sale, amend March meeting dates, and regulations to go out for public comment (limited teacher certificates regulation and out of state teacher reciprocity regulation).
Topics at the business meeting include approve draft board report to the legislature, approve MEHS land sale, approve March meeting dates, approve regulations to go out for public comment (limited teacher certificates regulation and out of state teacher reciprocity regulation), approve career and technical education recognition process, approve special assistant to the commissioner, approve director of libraries, archives and museums, and approve museum collections advisory committee appointments. The board will hear standing reports on the department’s divisions and the commissioner’s report, and will consider approval of the September 6-7, 2022 meeting minutes and October 26, 2022 meeting minutes and an executive session to discuss the selection of the student advisor-elect.
The board may amend its published agenda. Agenda times are estimates only, and the board may consider agenda items out of order without amending its agenda. The board also reserves the right to adjourn at a time later than estimated on the published agenda.
