(Washington, DC) - The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced that after months of competition, it will crown its citywide DPR Youth Winter Basketball League champions at Lamond Recreation Center on Saturday, March 10, 2018.

Male and female youth in various age divisions will compete in seven championship games this weekend. These annual basketball leagues have allow DPR to consistently help decrease violent incidents and reduce anti-social behavior while strengthening community involvement.

DPR's Basketball Division coordinates and oversees a variety of citywide youth basketball leagues during the winter months.  These leagues are designed to give as many youth as possible the greatest benefits available from participation in an organized sport. Players build coordination, speed, and strength while developing bonds with their teammates, and supportive relationships with positive adult role models. On and off the court, DPR coaches emphasize determination, teamwork, and respect.

Each basketball championship game will be followed by a trophy ceremony and photo opportunities for the participating teams.
