THE FIRST WATER PISTOL
The inventor of the first water pistol, made in 1896, was a man named Russell Parker. It used a rubber bulb inside a metal gun frame. The pistol was marketed as “USA Liquid Pistol. Will stop the most vicious dog (or man) without permanent injury.”
Why not use your water pistols to create a fun action painting! Action painting is a type of art where the artists see the canvas as a space for action. Famous artist, Jackson Pollock is the artist who best illustrates the techniques of action painting.
Create your own action painting by freely letting go and unleashing your feelings. Action paintings are usually abstract, which means it doesn’t have a subject or central image. Tell a story instead by the movement, colors, and patterns of the paint.

SQUIRT GUN PAINTING
A perfect water art project for kids of all ages. Messy and fun are the best combination!
SUPPLIES:
- Paper or canvas
- Squirt guns
- Food coloring
- Pipette or
- funnel
- Water
- Bowls
INSTRUCTIONS:
STEP 1: To make washable paint for water guns mix water and a few drops of food coloring in a separate bowls for each color.
STEP 2: Use your pipette to fill your water pistols.
STEP 3: Get outside and make a mess! Use your water pistol on canvas or paper for a creative art
