Water Use Calculator

Para ver esta página en español, haga clic en el ícono del Planeta Tierra ("Translate"/Traducir) en la parte superior derecha.

Below are two ways you can calculate your average daily water use per person in your household. You can either use readings from your water meter (Calculator #1) or use your monthly water bill (Calculator #2). Indoor household water needs can typically be met using 25-50 gallons per person per day. During the summer months, water use can increase due to outdoor irrigation.

After calculating your use, set a goal of how you can start or continue to save water. We encourage you to visit our Water Conservation webpage to learn how to save water both indoors and outdoors. Questions? Call (707) 778-4507 or email [email protected].

USE YOUR WATER METER TO CALCULATE AVG. WATER USE

The first way to calculate your average daily water use per person in your household is to take two readings from your water meter. To begin, click here to learn how to locate and read your water meter. We recommend you do a full week (7 days) between readings. Once you input all data into Calculator #1, use this information to set a water-saving goal for your household and join us in conserving water during this historic drought!

Step 1: At the start of the week, record the cubic feet reading on your water meter. This will be Reading #1.

Step 2: At the end of day seven, write down the cubic feet reading again. This will be Reading #2. Input both readings into Calculator #1.

Step 3: Input the number of days between readings (for a full week, that would be 7 days)

Step 4: Input the number of people in your household.

Step 5: Once you input all of the above data, the calculator should show you your average daily water use per person in your household.

Indoor household water needs can typically be met using 25-50 gallons per person per day. During the summer months, water use can increase due to outdoor irrigation. To learn more about how you can conserve water around your home, visit our Water Conservation webpage.
