Assistant Prosecutor
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office is seeking candidates to fill vacancies for the position of Assistant Prosecutor. An Assistant Prosecutor performs a wide range of duties, including evaluating the merits of a criminal case, preparing the case for trial, and advocating on behalf of victims and in the best interest of the State of New Jersey.
WORK HOURS:
Monday through Friday, minimally 8:30 AM to 4:15 PM, occasional weekend hours as required by one’s trial schedule.
SALARY:
• Candidates with no prior legal experience: Starting 2024 salary of $70,889. annually
• Candidates with prior legal experience: Salary commensurate with the level of experience held.
Future annual and step salary increases are delineated in the Assistant Prosecutor Collective Bargaining Agreement.

DESCRIPTION OF THE EMPLOYMENT PROCESS:
Conditional Offers of Employment will only be extended to candidates that pass the interview process, which involves a series of interviews with varied Assistant Prosecutors and the County Prosecutor. The conditional offer of employment letter contains the salary being offered, the employment application and the anticipated employment start date.
Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, the candidate will have to submit a completed employment application within the time frame specified and undergo a comprehensive background investigation by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. Candidates for employment will also be required to submit to a drug test conducted by the NJ State Medical Examiners lab and a medical examination conducted by a vendor contracted by the County of Middlesex.
The final step of the employment process involves approval by the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners.
