California Farm Demonstration Network

The California Farm Demonstration Network is a collaboration among California farmers, ranchers, agricultural technical assistance providers, and statewide agriculture organizations working together to scale the adoption of conservation practices toward a shared goal of resilient and thriving farms and ranches.

In May of 2017, the California Association of Resource Conservation Districts (CARCD), USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), California Farm Bureau Federation (CFBF), California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), University of California, Davis (UCD), and University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UCANR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to form the California Farm Demonstration Network (CFDN).

This year’s project seeks to expand and strengthen the California Farm Demonstration Network by providing funding toward the development of agricultural technical assistance hubs in four regions of California where they will be hosting 20 on-farm demonstration events highlighting different conservation practices.

CAFF and the Sacramento Valley Technical Assistance Hub welcome you to a free discussion on cover crop management in orchard systems. North Sac Valley almond and walnut grower Rory Crowley and UC Cooperative Specialist Jeff Mitchell will be speaking on cover crop management in relation to nitrogen impacts on water balance, in addition to biosolarization for nematode suppression. Practical management considerations and research trial findings will also be discussed. CAFF’s Sacramento Valley TA Hub is sponsored by the California Farm Demonstration Network.

The California Farm Demonstration Network hosted a four-part series on California soils. This series featured four speakers, each with extensive knowledge of California soils through the lens of farming and agriculture. Speakers covered various topics, including composting, orchard recycling, soil sampling, testing for microbial dynamics, and more.
