CABLE 2022 Big Idea Workshop

CABLE 2022 Big Idea 2-Day Hybrid Workshop

July 20-21, 2022

Conductivity-enhanced materials could lead to transformational technologies in applications ranging from electric cars, trains, and planes, to smartphones, heat pumps and everything else in our daily lives that involves the conduction of electric and thermal energy.

To capture the benefits of such materials, the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO), hosted its second annual workshop on Conductivity-enhanced materials for Affordable, Breakthrough, Leapfrog Electric and thermal applications (CABLE) to help supercharge our U.S. energy and manufacturing industries.

The hybrid workshop convened experts in metallurgy, carbon nanomaterials, materials science, materials modeling and simulation, metal matrix composites, conducting polymer and many other key science and engineering disciplines. It accelerated networking for R&D partners in the CABLE research ecosystem and collect stakeholder perspectives on the connection between the science underpinning new materials and their real-world manufacturability.

AMO’s goals were to seek advice from stakeholders to:

  • Provide input to guide AMO’s future portfolio of R&D investments
  • Gain perspective on trends, drivers, and challenges for next-generation conductivity-enhanced materials applications
  • Learn what others are doing in state-of-the-art enhanced conductivity materials manufacturing through interactive facilitated discussions
  • Enable CABLE Prize and SBIR-specific networking
  • Understand investment and business and job opportunities on the horizon
