Annual City Food Tax Rebate Program

Each year, the City of Boulder provides rebates to help compensate residents with lower incomes for the city sales tax they pay on food.

2024 Application Period

The 2024 application period opens on March 1, 2024. 

Rebates for 2024 will be $104 for individuals and $318 for families.

  • Applicants must meet financial eligibility guidelines.
  • Applicants must have lived in Boulder, CO for the entire 2023 calendar year. Applicants who did not live in the city of Boulder, CO will not be considered.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible, applicants must complete an application and meet financial eligibility guidelines, have resided within Boulder city limits for the entire 2023 calendar year, and be:

  • age 62 or over for the entire 2023 calendar year; or
  • a person with a disability; or
  • a family with children under 18 years of age in the household for the entire 2023 calendar year;

City residents who do not have permanent shelter are eligible for the refund and can meet the residency requirement by providing documentation that they are receiving services from a city-recognized homelessness services agency.

Volunteer Needed

Do you have an interest in helping low-income residents get money back? The city is seeking a volunteer to assist with the Food Tax Rebate program from March 1 through June 30, 2024. The volunteer will work 5 hours per week and help the Food Tax Rebate team process applications and provide office support.
