2021 Community Outreach and Regional Engagement Award

PRESENTED TO: The Community Outreach and Regional Engagement (CORE) initiative participant who demonstrates excellence in engaging, reaching, and serving veterans in their region, through proactive efforts in outreach and connecting veterans to the resources and benefits earned in service.

PURPOSE: To recognize and honor an individual CORE participant whose efforts and engagement within their assigned region have improved connectivity of veterans and their loved ones to resources and benefits and furthered the mission of the MVAA.

ELIGIBILITY:
• Must be an active, current CORE partner (Veteran Navigator, VCAT/VC leadership, SVCEO, VCEO, Buddy Coordinator), who served in such capacity for ≥7 months during the award period, or a CORE partner who recently separated but was actively serving the CORE initiative for ≥7 months during the award period.
• Submissions should include detailed examples and/or data, to the extent possible, on the nominee’s efforts toward the outcomes of the award’s purpose.
• Nominations should come from a current SVCEO, VCEO, or Veteran Navigator.

The nominee should demonstrate the following:
- Courteous and professional demeanor.
- Strong collaboration with their VCATs/VC in their efforts to assist the veteran/dependents.
- Represents the MVAA, MDHHS, and MVC at organizational meetings, with private groups and/or citizens
- Works to increase awareness of available resources and utilization of federal benefits and health care to veterans/dependents.
- Is the SME on federal benefits and earned benefits in their region.
- Works to encourage coordination and veteran engagement and awareness of activities in their assigned geographical region.
- Shows an emphasis on targeting underserved and special veteran populations.

This program is administered by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency. Anyone can nominate candidates for this award, but the nominee must meet the eligibility criteria. Submissions will be reviewed by an independent panel. The award recipient will be honored at the Michigan Military & Veterans Gala on Nov 06, 2021, at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
