2021 Warrior Citizen of the Year

PRESENTED TO: Active guard member who demonstrates service and commitment through citizenship and volunteerism while out of uniform, positively impacting their communities and demonstrating a life of service worthy of emulation.

PURPOSE: To recognize and honor an individual servicemember whose service, outside of uniform, contributes to the betterment of their community(ies), while reflecting positively on their role as a member of the armed services.

ELIGIBILITY:
• Current active National Guard, with reported volunteerism.
• Service members with significant off-duty community service work that highlights the non- institutional aspects of commitment to public service.
• Current active duty, guard, or reserve servicemember.
• Must have significant off-duty community service/civic engagement/volunteer work that supports the veteran/servicemember community, and/or the citizenry at large. “Significant” is at the discretion of the submitter.
• Submissions should include detailed examples and/or data, to the extent possible, on the nominee’s efforts toward the outcomes of the award’s purpose.

This program is administered by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency. Anyone can nominate candidates for this award, but the nominee must meet the eligibility criteria. Submissions will be reviewed by an independent panel. The award recipient will be honored at the Michigan Military & Veterans Gala on Nov 06, 2021, at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
