2021 Veteran of the Year

PRESENTED TO: The Michigan veteran who demonstrates a commitment to citizenship and civic responsibility through the giving of their time, passion, and heart to efforts and/or organizations that support their community(ies).

PURPOSE: To recognize and honor an individual veteran whose selfless dedication of time and purpose positively impacts the citizens of their community(ies) and/or the state at large.

ELIGIBILITY:
• The recipient of the Veteran of the Year Award will be selected based on SERVICE: Demonstrate a commitment to service in their community. This could be through advocacy, community projects, an act of heroism, or other actions.
• Must provide an example of how this veteran exudes a spirit of excellence.
• Must be a veteran of the Active duty, Reserves, or National Guard.
• Must have significant community service, civic engagement, and/or volunteer work that supports the veteran/military community and/or the citizenry at large. “Significant” is at the discretion of the submitter.
• Must reside in Michigan.
• Cannot have a dishonorable discharge.
• Submissions should include detailed examples and/or data, to the extent possible, on the nominee’s efforts toward the outcomes of the award’s purpose.

This program is administered by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency. Anyone can nominate candidates for this award, but the nominee must meet the eligibility criteria. Submissions will be reviewed by an independent panel. The award recipient will be honored at the Michigan Military & Veterans Gala on Nov 06, 2021, at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
