Blooming of Sun Prairie - Adopt-a-Flower Bed Program
Blooming of Sun Prairie - Adopt-a-Flower Bed Program

City of Sun Prairie

Through this program, individuals, families, or groups volunteer to adopt a flower bed planter within the Park System and care for it for the summer and fall seasons. The volunteer(s)/volunteer group will be responsible for bringing their own planting tools, weeding regularly, general maintenance, and regular watering of the plantings during the growing season. They are also responsible for the removal of the flowers at the end of the season. Volunteers/volunteer groups may design the appearance of a donated flower bed. The size of each flower bed is approximately 4’ wide by 20’ long, with the middle of the bed elevated in height. Plants should be placed about 6” apart on center to provide a thick, colorful flowerbed. Appropriate recognition signs will be placed by the Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department in each flower bed that is adopted. Flower beds will be ready for planting by Friday, May 10. Flower beds may be planted at any time after the volunteer(s)/volunteer group feels the weather permits, with a goal of having all flower beds planted by Friday, June 7. Mulch for the planter will be provided by the City's Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department. During the week of May 6, 2024, all Blooming of Sun Prairie volunteers will receive an e-mail from the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department will information on when and where to pick up mulch. If you desire to apply a weed inhibiter, such as Preen, you may do so prior to applying the wood mulch that will be provided by the City. *Please note that last returning "Blooming of Sun Prairie" volunteers are given priority to keep last year’s flower bed.

Historical Library & Museum
Historical Library & Museum

City of Sun Prairie

Volunteering at the Museum provides a unique opportunity to be a part of the inner operations of a museum, work with one-of-a-kind artifacts, learn about Sun Prairie, and help people appreciate history. The Museum offers something for everyone! If you like to engage with people, consider serving as a docent or event volunteer to greet visitors and guide them through Museum exhibits or programs. If you enjoy sharing your creative talents, join our Museum Exhibit Team to design and build educational displays. Those that prefer quieter, individual work can help with ongoing inventory and collections care initiatives or be "on call" to help with research requests. We look forward to engaging with your interests and exploring how you might contribute to great things happening at the Museum!
