Free Legal Assistance

The King County Bar Association Pro Bono Services department works with over 1400 volunteer attorneys, paralegals, law students and community members to provide free legal assistance for low income King County residents. 

KCBA shall not refuse services in any program on the basis of disability, race, creed, color, sex, religion, national/ethnic origin, age, marital status, sexual orientation, veteran status or any other class protected by law in the administration of its programs, in the eligibility of program participants, or in the provision of services to applicants or clients.

General Legal Advice

Neighborhood Legal Clinics
Provides FREE 30 minute consultations with an attorney at 34 locations across King County, including locations specializing in debt, bankruptcy, and family law issues. Attorneys determine whether the client has a legal problem, suggest possible options, and provide appropriate referrals. NLC attorneys will not represent you in court. NLC is a limited legal service and should not be considered a substitute for representation.


Debt and Bankruptcy

Neighborhood Legal Clinics
Provides FREE 30 minute consultations with an attorney at 34 locations across King County, including locations specializing in debt, bankruptcy, and family law issues.


Family Law

Domestic Violence Legal Advocacy Project (DV LEAD)
DV LEAD assists King County residents or King County litigants who are domestic violence survivors and have a low-income with domestic violence protection order or family law proceedings.

Kinship Care Solutions Project
Provides free legal advice and representation for relatives and other caregivers seeking minor guardianship of a child. 

Legal Advice and Referral for Kinship Care (LAARK)
LAARK provides legal advice over the phone to kinship caregivers throughout Washington state. Kinship caregivers outside Washington with a legal issue here are also eligible. LAARK does not represent caregivers in court.

Neighborhood Legal Clinics
General family law matters. Provides free 30-minute consultation with a family law attorney.

Self Help-Plus Program
Assists clients with non-contested marriage dissolutions (divorces that are agreed or in which the other party will not respond), parenting plans and child support in non-contested cases when the father has already been determined.


Housing

Housing Justice Project
Provides free legal help to eligible low-income tenants facing eviction in King County.


Vacating Criminal Records

The Records Project
Provides free legal services to vacate eligible King County criminal convictions for individuals that are at or below 200% of the federal poverty line. A vacated conviction is removed from public background searches available to employers and potential landlords. Our goal is to reduce barriers to employment and housing created by convictions.
