How has the Equity in OC Initiative impacted the community?

EQUITY IS…

the absence of avoidable or remediable differences among groups of people, whether the groups are defined socially, economically, demographically, or geographically.  Health inequities involve more than inequality with respect to health determinants such as access to the resources needed to improve and maintain health which can determine health outcomes.

- World Health Organization (WHO)

HEALTH EQUITY IS…

achieved when every person has the opportunity to, “attain his or her full health potential” and no one is “disadvantaged from achieving this potential because of social position or other socially determined circumstances.” Health inequities are reflected in differences in length of life; quality of life; rates of disease, disability, and death; severity of disease; and access to treatment.
