Our collection of neurological tissue bank samples currently includes more than 2.000 brains and spinal cords covering a wide range of neurological diseases, among which Alzheimer disease is the most widely represented. Other samples are available from patients suffering from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, Parkinson disease, Lewy body-related dementia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Huntington’s disease, among others.

The collection housed in this brain and spinal cord biobank includes samples for freezing, cryopreservation and paraffin preservation. As part of the European Bank network, Brain-Net Europe, the Neurological Tissue Bank – Biobanc accepts an increasing number of brains each year.

The Neurological Tissue Bank – Biobanc likewise offers detailed neuropathological diagnoses, useful to both the referring doctor and to the family of the donor. It is the catalan reference centre for the neuropathological postmortem diagnosis of human prion diseases.
