About Bike Month Pasadena

Bike Month Pasadena is a month-long campaign of fun and healthy bicycle activities that Pasadena residents and visitors can experience in the month of May. Activities will include group rides, social gatherings, a film screening, and guided tours. Bike Month Pasadena is made possible by the City of Pasadena, Day One, and Pasadena Complete Streets Coalition. See below for the full calendar.

Every Mondays & Wednesdays in May

Bike Repair Workshop for PUSD Students

Every Monday and Wednesday in May, PUSD students are invited to participate in a bike repair workshop at the La Pintoresca Teen Education Center, 3-5 pm.  Students can learn to fix their own bike or help fix bikes that will be donated to people in need. Students can also earn community service hours. Students can participate even if they don’t have a bike.

Location: La Pintoresca Teen Education Center, 1415 N Raymond Ave, Pasadena, CA 91103

Feeder ride to 626 Golden Streets

Participants will start at Pasadena City Hall, then ride together to South Pasadena for the open streets event. There will be a designated time and location for participants to meet and ride back to Pasadena together.

National
Bike to School Day    

Wednesday May 4, 2022 is National Bike to School Day. We encourage all students in Pasadena to ride a bike to school today and know that you are riding to school with countless other students across the country.

Wednesday, May 11

Bike Shop Social 

Join us on Wednesday May 11, 2022, 6:00 PM at Around the Cycle bicycle shop. Enjoy the company of fellow bicyclists and interested neighbors as we visit “off the bike” with snacks and refreshments. The social will include a presentation and discussion about how to commute by bike, use a bike for errands and other short trips.

Saturday, May 14

Night Ride    

Pasadena Complete Streets Coalition and Day One present a night-time adventure bike ride to well-known and maybe not-so-well known Pasadena landmarks! Distance will be approximately 12 miles. Ride Pace will be easy with multiple stops, relatively flat terrain with a few small hills.  

 

Date: Saturday May 14, 2022

Time: Meet at 7:00 PM, Roll at 7:30 PM

 

Start location: Central Park 

275 S Raymond Ave, Pasadena, CA 91105

Metro “Del Mar” station (L Line) across the street.

+ Please ensure your bike is in good working condition.

+ Bring lights for night-time riding, at least one spare tube that fits your tires, water and snacks. + Helmets encouraged and required for riders under 18.

Tuesday, May 17 (Evening)

Taco Tuesday Ride    

Join the Pasadena Complete Streets Coalition and Day One on an evening taco ride. We've got the tacos covered but bring cash for extra food!

Time: Meet at 6:00 PM, Roll at 6:30 PM

Meet location: Jefferson Park, Northwest corner, 1501 East Villa Street, Pasadena, CA 91106

Route: This will be a 7-mile mostly flat ride with a small hill.

 

+Please ensure your bike is in good working condition.

+Bring lights for night-time riding, at least one spare tube that fits your tires and water. 

+Helmets encouraged and required for riders under 18.

Bike to
Work Day    

Bike to Work Day is Thursday May 19, 2022 in L.A. County. If you’ve never ridden your bike to work before, this is the day to give it a try! And if you bike to work often, today is the day to celebrate! 

Visit our Bike to Work Day pit-stop at Pasadena City Hall to say hello and enjoy free refreshments to help fuel your ride, pick up some biking information, plus some other free goodies.

Don’t forget, if you need to travel far - go multi-modal. Metro buses and trains, Metrolink trains, and Pasadena Transit buses are free for bicyclists on Bike to Work Day.

Date: Thursday, May 19th, 2022 (Bike to Work Day!) 

Time: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Location: Dog Haus Biergarten, 93 Green Street in Old Pasadena

Join us to celebrate Bike to Work Day at Dog Haus, where we will be discussing the state of biking in Pasadena! What's working? What's not? How can you get involved? Staff from Pasadena's Department of Transportation will be on hand to hear your ideas, and current and potential future City Council Members will be invited! 

Free tater tots while supplies last! All other food and all beverages will be “buy your own.”

RIDE OF SILENCE    

Join cyclists worldwide in a silent slow-paced ride in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways. 

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Ride of Silence.

Time: Ride starts promptly at 11 AM

(Arrive early so you’re ready to roll at 11 AM).

Pasadena Location: Memorial Park

Bike-in 
Movie Night

Who doesn’t like watching a movie under the stars? Day One will host a bike-in movie night on the lawn at our Pasadena office. Pack a picnic dinner or snacks, a blanket to sit on, and ride your bike to the screening. We will be screening “Together We Cycle,” a 2020 documentary about the history of bicycling in the Netherlands. Amsterdam is considered one of the world’s meccas for bicycling, but it wasn’t always that way. View the trailer here. A short discussion about the film and bicycling will follow the screening. 

 

Don’t forget bike lights for the ride home.

Public 
Art Tour

There are public art installations all over Pasadena. For Bike Month, we’re going to visit some of them by bike! Participants will ride to multiple public art installations in Pasadena and learn about each installation.

+ Ride will take approximately 2 hours and cover approximately 10 miles. 

+NO RSVP required.

Time: Meet at 9:30 a.m. - Roll at 10:00 a.m.    

Location: Meet at the Pasadena Robinson Memorial, 95 N. Garfield Avenue at Holly Street, across from Pasadena City Hall    

 

+Please ensure your bike is in good working condition.

+Bring at least one spare tube that fits your tires, water and snacks. +Sunblock recommended. 

+ Helmets encouraged and required for riders under 18.

Saturday, May 28 

Bike Brunch 
Picnic Adventure

To coincide with the Grand Re-opening of La Pintoresca Park and the 26th Annual Family Fun Day, pack yourself a picnic, get on your bike, and join us for a leisurely ride that will end at “La Pin,” where we can eat and enjoy the celebration being hosted by the City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.

Ride distance will be approximately 5 miles. Ride Pace will be easy, relatively flat terrain with a few small hills. 

 

We will be stopping briefly at McDonald Park (SE corner at Mountain & Mar Vista) and Washington Park (NW corner at El Molino & Washington Blvd.) along the way. 

Riders who want to meet us at McDonald Park or Washington Park should be at the above locations and ready to roll at 10:45 AM and 11:00 AM respectively.

Time: Meet at 10:00 AM, Roll at 10:30 AM

Start Location: Victory Park Recreation Center parking lot, 2575 Paloma St, Pasadena, CA 91107

Saturday, May 28  

Bike Repair Workshop    

Day One, Active SGV, and the La Pintoresca Teen Education Center will host a special bike repair workshop at Teen Center as part of the Grand Re-opening of La Pintoresca Park and the 26th Annual Family Fun Day to kick off the summer. Participants can learn how to repair their own bikes and help repair bikes for donation to the community.

As we approach the end of the month, we think it’s a good time to end Bike Month with dessert and you’re invited. Participants will ride to multiple ice cream vendors in Pasadena to sample their ice cream. Ride distance will be approximately 10 miles, easy pace, mostly flat with some small hills.

Meet Location: Pasadena City Hall, 100 Garfield Ave, Pasadena, CA 91101 (Garfield Steps)
