THE WORLD IS COMING

Dear Eighth Avenue West resident,

This is an exciting time for our city and your neighborhood. In two and a half months, The World Games 2022 will come to Birmingham with thousands of athletes and fans from around the world. There will be 14 venues spanning throughout Birmingham and neighboring cities, including Flag Football at Legion Field.

An event this size requires a great deal of planning and preparation. That includes ensuring the event is safe and secure for all the participants, our residents and our businesses. Federal authorities have identified The World Games 2022 as a high-level security event with a SEAR 1 rating. The Super Bowl is an example of a SEAR 1 event.

The City of Birmingham is working with federal, state and local partners to maintain this level of security while minimizing the inconvenience to you. The World Games 2022 events at Legion Field will require a secure boundary to be established. This perimeter, which will be set-up in early July, will restrict non-official vehicular access to certain areas including Legion Field.
