Mainstream Adapted Kayaking Solution

RAM Mounts, a mainstream device mount manufacturer, partnered with Angle Oar to bring kayaking to a more inclusive audience!
I know that it just snowed, and most of us aren't thinking about kayaking this time of year, but this newsletter graced my email box and it got me excited enough to share!

RAM Mounts has dozens of customizable mounting solutions for everything - cell phones, laptops, tablets, cameras, Go Pro’s, and even fishing rods! Even better is that they’ve made all of these attachable to just about anything, including cars, kayaks, motorbikes, and ATV’s. The reason why we at the Vermont AT Program are familiar with this company is that they have an entire section of their website devoted to accessibility and wheelchair mounting solutions in their Accessibility Catalog.

Today they announced a mounting solution for kayaks in partnership with Angle Oar that will allow people with various strength and physical related barriers to continue to kayak. They have 3 standard mounts: the hinged, apex, and twin track. These are paired with either their Versa Paddle, or a paddle holder so you can bring your own. The mounts hold the paddle for you, really reducing the strength and grip required to manage the kayak paddle. The set up comes in around $400 after-tax – depending on the complexity of your set up. They have suggestions for standard kayaks, sit on top kayaks, stand up paddleboards, and more. Visit the Angle Oar Shop (angleoar.com) to see the options.

The process of installing them into your kayak is relatively straightforward as well. Here is an example they posted to YouTube Installing the Twin Track Mount on a Sit on Top (SOT) Kayak - YouTube. This option is designed for people with extremely limited mobility but there are other options available based on your own unique needs. They had a great example of someone with the use of only one arm paddling on a lake in their press release!

Image Description: A person with brown hair wearing a yellow life jacket is sitting in an orangish kayak. Attached to the back of the kayak are two outriggers which prevent the kayaker from flipping over. In front of the kayaker is the Versa Paddle attached to the Angle Oar Hinge mount. The paddle looks like it has been broken in half, and at this point it is attached to a pole that is connected to the kayak. This allows the kayaker to maneuver each half of the kayak paddle easily, and independently.
