AT For Grocery Shopping Part 3

Make recipe finding and meal creation simple!

Cooking meals can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Hand selecting recipes, methodically planning your meals for the week, and prepping ingredients the way you choose can be liberating, but what if it feels daunting to create a grocery list, or find the time to get to the store to pick out ingredients? Maybe you’re somebody who craves homecooked meals, but going from a recipe online to a hot meal on your table feels like an overwhelming task. In this third and final installation of AT for Grocery Shopping, we will review some Assistive Technology that can make meal creation simpler.

Samsung Food App:

Recipe apps have a lot to offer when it comes to meal prep. There are many to choose from, but today we will highlight Samsung Food, formerly known as Whisk. Samsung Food offers an abundance of features – not only does it allow you to easily save recipes from anywhere online to your app by using the Samsung Food Chrome Extension, but it also allows you to search for new recipes based off your personalized preferences. Samsung Food also has a built in Meal Planner, allowing you to drag and drop from your recipe collection into a weekly meal plan. Samsung Food lets you instantly convert recipes into smart shopping lists with a single click. You can order ingredients online directly from your list to be delivered to you, as well as collaborate and share your list with others. Other features to note include serving size adjustment and unit conversion. Lastly, it also works with Samsung's Smart refrigerators!

Tovala:

The Tovala Smart Oven is another great option for simplifying meal creation. This oven is designed to cook the brand’s fresh meal kits, allowing you to simply scan the meals QR code to set the oven to cook at the correct temperature for the right amount of time. Each meal is ready in 25 minutes or less, and eliminates the need for shopping, prepping, or cleaning up. You can also customize your meal plan to fit your dietary needs and preferences.

On the right side of the oven are 3 buttons to adjust settings. In the foreground is a phone with the Tovala app open, showing a recipe for Shrimp Singapore Noodles.

DishGen:

The final option we will highlight today is DishGen, an AI based recipe creator. You can use DishGen to enter in a vague idea you have for a recipe, or a selection of ingredients you have on hand. DishGen will generate an original recipe based off your prompt, allowing you to get creative and make use of leftovers or spare ingredients you already have in your kitchen. Additionally, DishGen is free to use and does not require you to create an account.

Underneath is a search bar where you can enter in ingredients and recipe ideas. Below that is an example of a prompt that can be searched, along with several recipe suggestions created by other users.
