Plano Names Lone Finalist for its Next Police Chief

Ed Drain

PLANO (WBAP/KLIF) – The City of Plano is close to hiring its next Police Chief.

Current Amarillo Police Ed Drain has been named the lone finalist for the position. If hired he would replace longtime Plano Police Chief Gregory Rushin.

“Back in September Chief Rushin was promoted to a Deputy City Manager position and we started a search for a new Police Chief,” said Steve Stoler with the City of Plano.

Drain is a familiar face in Plano after serving the department in various roles from 1994-2016.

“He worked in patrol, he worked in the neighborhood police unit traffic investigations,” said Stoler. “He was on the SWAT team and also on the bomb squad.”

Drain also served in the US Army as an Explosives Ordinance Disposal Officer.

“Back in 2004 he was called to activity duty and was assigned to the third US Army Corp in Iraq where he was awarded a Bronze Star and other military decorations.”

The City Council is expected to consider approving the hire next week.
