Insurance giant Transamerica eyes move to new Plano office

Transamerica is looking to consolidate in the Legacy Central development on U.S. 75.

Insurance and financial services giant Transamerica Corp. is eyeing consolidation of its North Texas operations in a new Plano office.

The Iowa-based company is working on plans for an office in the Legacy Central mixed-use development at U.S. Highway 75 and Legacy Drive, according to permit filings.

The almost 37,000-square-foot Transamerica office would be in the third office building at Legacy Central. Dallas-based Entos Design is laying out the new operation.

Transamerica now has a large office on Plano Parkway near Bush Turnpike.

“We are exploring new office locations in close proximity to our current Plano office that meets the needs of both our business and our employees,” said a spokesperson for the firm in an email.

Officials with the Legacy Central project declined to discuss any potential office transactions at the development.

If Transamerica moves ahead with its plan, the company would join Samsung, fitness equipment firm Peloton, coworking company Space and other office tenants in the 84-acre project.

In 2016, California-based Regent Properties bought the former Texas Instruments campus that dates to the 1980s. It’s redeveloping the old tech center into a mixed-use project with offices, retail, conference facilities, additional parking and apartments.

Trammell Crow Residential built 385 apartments at the south end of Legacy Central.

There are also plans for a hotel and additional retail and restaurant space.
