Goodbye, Cinemark Movies 10. Hello, Cinemark Central Plano.
Cinemark Movies 10 theater first opened its doors 25 years ago as the first Cinemark in Plano. After closing for renovations in late July, the theater officially reopens to the public Nov. 14 with a new and improved look. And new name. And it sells alcohol. And it has heated recliners.
The theater that was commonly referred to as the “dollar theater” will now operate as a first-run movie theater with regular ticket prices. Two Dollar Tuesday may be gone, but moviegoers can still early bird, senior citizen and discount Tuesday tickets online.
Cinemark Central Plano still has 10 screens, with each auditorium sporting heated luxury loungers for every seat. Other renovations included updated carpet, new wall coverings and a mural of Downtown Plano imagery above the concessions. Guests will have the opportunity to choose from enhanced food and beverage options including freshly cooked Pizza Hut pizzas, draft beer, wine and frozen margaritas. The arcade was removed to make room for the pizza kitchen.
The existing footprint of the cinema was not changed, so stadium seating and XD auditoriums weren’t able to be added. But now everything has an updated, modern feel.
“We want it to still feel like the neighborhood theater it’s always been, but just with what people want now,” said Nick Vedda, Marketing and Promotions Manager for Cinemark.

Great, a movie theater close enough to walk to. Now we need better crosswalks to get across Coit and Park streets.
Specifically the Cinemark Central Plano. Seems it is now impossible to find what day is the Senior Discount day and what the ticket price is now. All that comes up is the Early Bird available to anyone. Did Cinemark just conveniently forget to provide any senior information?
My husband and I went last week, to a 5:40 showing. His senior ticket was $5.75
The loss of Plano’s last value theater is no small thing. With the cost of two matinee tickets and one popcorn and soda to share, it’s about $30 – which is difficult for those on a fixed income. The cost of seeing a family movie with kids? Out of reach for many. Plus, when this was a “dollar theater” I was willing to see movies that I might otherwise have ignored (who wants to gamble a lot of money on an “iffy” picture?)
This renovation offers Plano citizens more of what they already had, while taking away what was the only option for many.
I look forward to trying the new theater. We stopped going to the old one years ago.
