Viet Nam mulls over shortening quarantine period for entrants by one week

VGP – Viet Nam is considering reduction of mandatory quarantine period for entrants by one week if they have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

June 08, 2021 8:16 PM GMT+7

This is one of the issues discussed at a meeting of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control on Tuesday afternoon.

The current mandatory quarantine duration is 21 days.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Viet Nam suspended entry of foreign arrivals from March 22, 2020 but this measure is not applicable to diplomats, officials, foreign investors, experts, and skilled workers.

The National Steering Committee urged relevant ministries to quickly complete a technological platform to tighten management of incoming travellers from their arrival time until the end of medical surveillance period.

It also tasked the Ministry of Health to accelerate the experiment of new testing methods, including saliva tests.

Viet Nam has experienced four COVID-19 waves, with the latest and toughest wave starting from April 27 with 6,003 community infection cases recorded in 39 cities and provinces.

As of 6:00 pm on Tuesday, the Southeast Asian nation recorded 9,158 COVID-19 cases, including 3,549 recoveries and 55 fatalities./.
