Week of May 31, 2020

Welcome to the first edition of the City of West Hollywood’s Business & Workforce Newsletter. The City is working quickly to respond to business community needs and this newsletter will serve as a regular informational outlet with links to resources, information, and relief for businesses and workforces.

City of West Hollywood Curfew in Effect

On Saturday, May 30, 2020, the City of West Hollywood implemented an Executive Emergency Order establishing a curfew. Today, Sunday, May 31, 2020, Los Angeles County announced a Countywide curfew for tonight from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Businesses should remain closed during tonight's curfew and subsequent curfew orders, which aim to protect public safety. Updates about curfew orders will be posted at the top of the emergency information box on the City's website at www.weho.org. Follow regular updates on social media @wehocity on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Thankfully with all of the impacts to our community, none of our Sheriff’s Deputies were injured, nor were there any structure fires. Unfortunately, various businesses and locations throughout the City were victims of vandalism, ranging from graffiti, property damage and looting. The City is reaching out to the affected property/business owners, and the City's graffiti abatement teams have been deployed.

Preliminary assessment of the vandalism shows 75-80 businesses were tagged with graffiti, with the businesses located along Melrose Ave. and Beverly Blvd. impacted the most; and about 20-25 businesses had their windows/glass broken. City staff anticipates that the graffiti will be eradicated within 3-4 days.

If your business needs to file a report for insurance purposes, you may contact the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station at (310) 855-8850. The station will catalog all information received and will follow-up accordingly with all businesses once the local emergency is terminated.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Disaster Relief Assistance for Immigrants

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the State of California is providing one-time state-funded disaster relief assistance to undocumented adults who are ineligible for other forms of assistance, including assistance under the CARES Act and pandemic unemployment benefits, because of their immigration status. This state funding is expected to reach about 150,000 undocumented adults. An undocumented adult who qualifies can receive $500 in direct assistance, with a maximum of $1,000 in assistance per household. Contact the Central American Resource Center – CARECEN at (213) 315-2659 or by visiting its website here for assistance in applying and receiving these benefits.
